The State of Wordox

Wordox is in a rather sorry state, isn't it? Attendance at tournaments & Interleague is very low & member enthusiasm is all but extinct. There are a few signs of growth & new life. Our RubyNewbie (rubydg) reeled in a new member from across the pond who enjoyed the tourneys so much she determined to have a nap next week so she could stay up & play with us.
Extreme Ox gets a decent turnout most of the time. Over in that neck of the woods Duncansmama is the stalwart oak that we all huddle under for that safe, warm feeling she projects. When things were particularly bad one evening & Wordox was a ghost town, the few players that showed up were fretting about the leagues shutting down. Duncs said (I paraphrase) "As long as I can get into the room, we'll have tournaments." We all felt better.
I lost my EXOX crown to the evil Bluberry. Lately I've been feeling random pains in my legs, shoulders, temple. I suspect she has a Holly Pepper doll somewhere with a bunch of pins in it. She is VoodooBlu. I can't prove this, but the pains did stop after she won the crown back. At one tourney, the TD thanked everyone for registering. I said my usual "thank you for keeping us out of the crack houses." Players laughed, wished each other good luck. Blu said "I'm playing from a crack house." She's evil, but she's funny.
A lot of players are spending their time at WordSteal, but I don't get the attraction. I've dropped in there & the graphics seem rather boring. My partner is raising hell over there & swears it's a thrill ride, I just don't see it.
My beloved Synergy is limping along. Its members don't play there anymore & the TD's have lost all enthusiasm. I really don't know what happened. One moment we were having a rollicking good time, playing Swiss Teams, Masquerades, Bawdy Ox; the next moment we were looking at one possible tournament a day & no players. If it wasn't also happening to other leagues, I would blame the Barnyard Epidemic of '05. We lost a lot of members in that one. Sometimes you can still hear one of them out there, quacking in the dark.
Here's hoping things pick up soon! :::clink:::

Hiya Partner glad to see you up and writing. A word about wordsteal, its not the graphics... there are a lot of uk and international players there, wordox hooligans some, and its fun butting heads with them. The dictionary is more up to date than Hoyle also.
The one thing that is killing hoyle from what i gather is the spyware bundled in wonplay, with todays antivirus/spyware programs out there most people just dont want to hassle with it or are scared of it.
If you get the tourney DT's come check out my group, we dont have graphics but we do have fun. As an added attraction you can play Wordman!!

Sigh, its such a shame, it is getting more and more difficult to find a tourney to play in for me. Being five hours ahead, the latest that suits me is 2pm. I used to play in all the leagues and often made the fourth. The only one I seem able to make now is the 8am in pairs and even that is struggling. I have tried putting tourneys on at 1pm and 2pm but none of them ran until the 29th in a row, so I gave up. Interleague is still just about limping along thanks to the TDs that support it. Some of the admin team are not even members any more! The down time at Hoyle doesn't help together with the lack of tournies. OK so I gave in and joined wordsteal as they have tournies at a suitable time, gradually adjusted to playing there but miss the sounds dreadfully also the blue seat!! The peeps seem nice there mostly but I still dont play in the rated room. Being an OX addict for many years I need a fix of some sort. The way things are going at Hoyle, wordsteal might end up the only option. I also miss lots of the Hoyle players, some I dont lol especially those that thrash me and steal the blue seat!!!!

I like two things about Wordsteal:
1) the updated dictionary
2) you can type your word on the board
Everything else stinks, especially begging for games.
If I thought wordman would play me, I'd rejoin your league in a heartbeat, Jeff.
But here's how things go when wordman stops ignoring me and actually talks to me in Wordsteal:
Dorcas to Richard: game?
Richard to Dorcas: go to table 4 and teach that ElusiveVixen a lesson
Dorcas to Richard: I'd rather lose 5 in a row to you than beat up on some hapless vixen
Richard to Dorcas: I have to go out to dinner in 10 minutes
*sigh*

Why beg anyone for a game ? i dont get that. I never ask anyone for games on that site. Before i started the league and spent a lot of time in rated i would set a table and let them come to me. As my rating went up the better players started coming to try to grab some of my rating points. I had to do a lot of no pinks games at first but now when i do go to rated i set the options i prefer and wait them out.

i have gone in there and set a table but i get tired of waiting, and when i see someone i know, why not ask "game?" it only feels like begging when no one answers or they answer but make excuses.
i've exaggerated on your blog for smack effect, jeff, but i still don't like going in there and sitting around waiting while people i know *appear* to be in the room but ignoring me.
by the way i enjoyed our games at hoyle last night very much - even the ones i lost.
i'll continue to drop in at wordsteal, too.
